What's Blooming in May?

The Lakeside
Nature Center gardens are blooming busily. The spring
ephemera have faded and the summer flowers are starting to
appear.
Coreopsis is blooming in
the fields along Gregory and in the glade to the east of the
Center.
The
butterfly gardens are mostly blue and white;
false indigo and
penstemon are the
predominant plants although
tradescantia is blooming
here and there.
In the beds
in front of the center, both
sand phlox and
wood phlox blossomed during
the first weeks of May.
Ninebark is covered with
balls of flowers.
The beds
along the wall glow with
wild parsnip,
penstemon and
false indigo.
The wild
garden behind the center is green and flourishing. Earlier
this month, both
yellow iris and
blue iris added color to
the stream.
