Blue Sage
(Salvia
azureum)

Another
name for blue salvia is Pitcher sage. The plant was
named after Dr. Zina Pitcher, an army surgeon and botanist
who studied prairie plants after the Civil War.
Like many
prairie plants, blue salvia has an enormous root system,
extending six to eight feet underground.
This is
another plant used in folk medicine -- in fact, the species name
means healing!
