What's Blooming in October?

The
October butterfly garden is far more pink and blue than
yellow. The
goldenrod is setting
seed; a few
sunflowers are still
blooming. The garden is filled with butterflies, bees,
wasps and moths feasting on the nectar in asters.
New England asters, in
a myriad of colors, and
White heath asters form
huge mounds of flowers.
Boneset
is still
blooming, but it too is starting to set seed.
The Savannah
shows more green than yellow -- many of the plants have gone to
seed, but there are still a few blossoms here and there.
The round
bed in front of the center is overflowing with asters of all
varieties.
The roadside
plantings were mowed back this month. The wildflowers will
return in the spring bigger and better than ever..
The
Cat-tails bordering the bubbling stream
behind the Center have gone to seed. There are a few
plants of
pitcher sage still in
bloom, but the predominant color is provided by the glorious
colored leaves.
