Eagle Takes up Residence
at Lakeside Nature Center

An American Bald Eagle that
has been recuperating in the Rehab wing at Lakeside Nature
Center is now on exhibit.
On June 20, 2005, a
young, malnourished eagle missing an eye, was transported to
Lakeside Nature Center by a Missouri Department of Conservation
agent. The bird was found on the ground in Warsaw, MO.
After further examination and
x-rays by our veterinarian, it was found to have severely broken
right shoulder and wing. The breaks are old and have
healed improperly. As result, US Fish and Wildlife
gave permission to place the eagle on exhibit here at Lakeside.
The eagle is approximately
three years old. It will develop the white head and tail
of a mature bald eagle within a few years.
Seeing a bald eagle up close
is an awesome experience. Welcome our new guest by
visiting us soon and often.
