Fox Hollow Trail Dedicated

The new Fox Hollow Hiking Trail was officially dedicated on Sunday, June 25, 2006, which also happened to be the 110th anniversary of the dedication of Swope Park.  Mark McHenry, Director of KC Parks and Recreation, spoke, as did the trailblazers themselves, H. Gordon Havens and Ken Hightower.  Ribbon cutting was followed by guided hikes along the trail and refreshments.  As a symbolic gesture, a litter of young Eastern Cottontails was released at the trail's head.

Nestled in the valley behind the Center, the trail meanders along limestone bluffs, beside the scenic Fox Hollow Creek, through old riparian forest, all the while exploring the colorful personality of a deep, primitive, wetland valley.

Fox Hollow Trail is open to the public although there still are a few finishing touches to be added, such as benches at certain locations and a children's arboretum at trail's end.

Stop by Lakeside Nature Center, pick up a trail map and take a hike!
