Barn Owlets Released into a Barn

These are four Barn Owlets, out of ten, that were released on a farm near Kearney, Missouri.  Several clutches of Barn Owlets recuperated at the hospital at the Center in 2005.  Barn Owls have large clutches and can hatch up to thirteen owlets.  Many of these owls were displaced form their nesting sites and were turned over to Lakeside Nature Center.  At one point over the summer we had so many Barn and Barred owlets that we were going through 100 mice a week!  We were glad to help them but we were even happier to see them go free.
