Hike with a Naturalist

Join a Lakeside Nature Center Naturalist to explore the trails around the center.  Dress appropriately for the weather of the day and bring along a water bottle.  The trailhead for the hike will be determined based on weather forecasts and the condition of trail options.  Each hike starts at 10:00 in the morning.

Eagle Days at Smithville Lake

Lakeside's birds of prey are traveling to Smithville to be part of Eagle Days. The event will take place at  Paradise Point Golf Course Complex in Little Platte Park. 
Show times on Saturday are 9:30, 11:00, 12:30, and 2:00.  Sunday show times are 11:00, 12:30, and 2:00.  The viewing station location will be determined the day before the event.

Little Blue River Watershed Coalition and Heart of America Fly Fishers invite you to bring your children and learn all about the bugs in our streams, the fish that eat them and what they can tell us about the quality of the water.  Learn from the Heart of America Fly Fishers as they tie flys of those bugs and show you how to cast your fly to attract fish.  Build a craft and get a tattoo.

Run For the Raptors

This race focuses on raising funds to help builds new and improved housing for Lakeside's educational raptors (birds of prey).  You will experience a challenging and beautiful 5K set in the wooded dirt track of the Swope Trails, designed and built by Heartland Outside.  During the run, you will encounter  limestone rocky outcroppings as you meander through a mature Oak/Hickory forest.  Give yourself a chance to explore one of the nicest trail systems in the city
